This statement is just wrong as networks buy shows and keep them going for their ratings. The ratings have nothing to do with how many people actually watch the show as you simply cannot count this. So if everyone would download the show except those who have a rating-box/voting box installed at their homes, this wouldn’t affect the ratings at all. But this is not the case. Only a small percentage of people actually download shows and the majority of those people live outside the US and couldn’t receive those programs in the first place or have to wait years until they might get aired at their local tv channels.

The “loss of money” the movie industry and the tv-stations whine about therefore cannot be a loss in viewers of the specific station. Plus, to get available in the internet the show has to be aired and captured in the first place. On the contrary, due to the availability of a TV-Show in the internet, the TV-Channel and the specific show gets even more viewers and those in the US are more likely to watch the show on their telly rather than downloading it (if they can) and viewers in other countries are likely to write to their local TV-Stations to request that specific show to get dubbed and aired locally.

Despite all possible reasons for or against sharing shows online, the movie industry failed to prove that they lost any money at all… If I remember correctly, the movie industry had record earnings last year (2003). So, with all those bad people using cameras in cinemas, those bad oscar jurors who let screeners slip and the extremely bad internet users who rip and share movies and tv-shows in filesharing tools, how come they actually achieved this record income? Could it possibly be that they actually produced some descent movies and those who download movies buy them on dvd later or go into cinemas nevertheless???

You have touched on all the major points. Including the old adage of: any publicity is good publicity.

In Canada what we’re doing is not considered illegal, heck they tax us on it in the form of a Entertainment tax on Blank DVD’s and CD’s. Also as more and more ppl begin downloading Tv, Tv will adapt, by have the advertising in the episode/show itself. Example: “Desperate Housewives” you’ll see them drinking Folgers coffee, or on C.S.I you see Grissom drinking a Pepsi.

The interesting thing is that all of the shows I have downloaded, every single one, I have access to through the satellite TV of my parents and I record at my parents. EVEN the new releases. Where I am at, I can’t get broadcast, cable OR satellite. Broadcast cuz we in a shadow area, Cable cuz they don’t want to, not because they can’t, they just don’t want to, and satellite because of the amount of trees and other interference.

I download them but usually watch them at my parents or record them and then watch them on my VCR. I suspect that the actual numbers of sharers IS NOT THAT BIG. and that is WORLD WIDE. The p2p networks are a scapegoat, this includes things like mp3’s. I am not stating this as somebody trying to get something for free, its not like I don’t pay 300 bucks for the service (at my parents) each year. I say this because if you REALLY look at the numbers and the trends, the companies making the most noise about piracy are the ones that are either selling their DVD’s and Music at exorbitant prices or/and are the most hit by the HUGE number of cheap copies on the street from Professional piracy. The companies doing these allegations are the same ones making the BIGGEST profit on a PER UNIT sale. Enough money in fact that they can make multi billion dollar add campaigns and higher legions of lawyers.

Other things that fly in the face of what these companies are telling the world, most of my friends (this isn’t data, its anecdotal evidence) and myself did NOT buy music from 91 through 2001. Out of 20 of us, we had bought a total of 3 CD’s. When we started listening to mp3’s, in 2000-2001, we started buying CD’s. I now have a collection of about 230 CD’s and I am typical of my friends, all of us have that many CD’s. Our incomes actually went down during this period. BUT I will say, I did NOT buy ONE CD at the 20 dollar or even the 15 dollar mark. I only bought CD’s I could find at 12 or lower dollar mark. Same with all my friends.

These companies are using a scapegoat of p2p as the devil when in fact the problem is their own greed and overpricing of their product. Had they lowered the prices to begin with they would have had much higher sales. Same goes with the DVD of shows. They overprice them. I mean 80 dollars for ONE season of a show I have watched already? These 80 dollars (or 60), after packaging and production cost (which are not that great since they don’t have to make a series, they just have to copy it), is all gravy. And what gravy it is.

But according to them the problem is with their customers. It is the CUSTOMER that is at fault. Not the overpricing of products. If they where giving me the seasons at 20 dollars, which if you think about it IS reasonable, or even lets say 30, I would buy them. 6 seasons of MASH would be 180 dollars. I bit excessive in my view but… I would consider it. 120 for the 6 first seasons and I would DEFINITELY take it.

The thing is that they will make laws making fair use illegal. They will push laws in protecting their Monopoly or if not monopoly then their near monopoly. And the only ppl that gain out of all this other than the lawyers are the big wigs at the companies that do this. Not the actual maker of the new media, not the common worker (his job gets outsourced to Korea or India or now China), not the stockholder either, they only get the chance to APPROVE (not even actually vote it down by the way) the MASSIVE increases in the CEO and Board of directors and other top management packages, the only ones to win in this case are in one of three groups.

1.) lawyers
2.) Top management and Board of directors
3.) Politicians

Vannak olyan sorozatok, amiknek a magyar szinkronja meg egyenesen felhaborito, es szinte meg se tudom nezni. de szinte minden sorozat jobb eredetiben…sokkal. de meg igyis megnezem, ha sugarozni kezdik magyarorszagon. van olyan, ami soha nem is jelent meg dvd-n, igy azt se tudom megvenni. ha meg is jelent, akkor is legtobb csak regio 1-es, amit ugye nem lehet magyarorszagon megvenni, mert ugye erre talaltak ki a regiokodot, hogy magyarorszagon csak regio 2-es, vagy regio free lemezeket lehessen lejatszani.
Az egesz sorozat letoltes akkor kezdodott , amikor megneztem a Roswell sorozatot a viasat 3-on, nagyon megtetszett, es vartam a folytatast, de nem jott. Irtunk levelet a viasat 3-nak, hogy mikor lesz kovetkezo evad, es azt mondtak, hogy talan jovo februarban, es vartunk… eljott a februar, de sehol a roswell, ez mar vagy 3-4 eve… es azotza se adtak le magyaron
azota mar a sorozatot is befejeztek, szerencsere sikerult letolteni angolul, es megnezni, igy meg peticiot is tudtam alairni, hogy folytassak a sorozatot. ha most meg mindig arra varnek, hogy eloszor levetitsek itt, akkor talan 10 mulva kerhetnem, hogy folytassak a sorozatot, aminek mar tobb mint 10 eve vege… szoval eselytelen…
Vannak szerencsesebb sorozatok, amik hamarabb megjelennek , de ezeknel is minimum fel-1 ev a keses. Mint pl a jobaratok a HBO-n, es bar ezeket is megneztem eredetiben, megis megvan meg mindig az HBO elofizetes. Szoval nem az elofizeesi dij megsporolasa miatt toltom le a sorozatokat…

Szoval rengeteg hatranya van annak, ha meg kell varni, amig leszinkronizalva leadjak nalunk a sorozatokat.
Ez nem olyan, mint a mozifilmek, amit a moziban lenyegeben napokban merheto kesessel lehet megnezni itthon is.
Anyagi kart meg nem igazan okozok azzal, hogy megnezem a letoltott reszeket..
Ha leadjak a magyaron, nagy valoszinseggel megnezem, meg akkor is ha a szinkron nem olan jo mint az eredeti. A nezettsegi adatokat, meg meg akkor se rontanam, ha nem neznem, mert meg soha a kutya se kerdezte meg, hogy miket nezek, pedig orulnek neki, akkor talan kevesebb hulye brazil sorozatot vennenek az adok…

Van egy jo kis leiras (csak kicsit hosszu), hogy hogyan tegyunk fel kerdeseket jol. A legnagyobb resze common sense, olyasmi amire magatol is rajonne az ember, ha gondolkodna egy kicsit.
