Siri – Personal Skynet

So who is Siri? You could ask her, but you are probably better off sooking it up in Wikipedia.

Siri uses Wolfram Alpha and probably Samsung’s S Voice does too. Which is pretty amazing. (Google Now just hands off the search phrase to Google search engine, which is nice, but a lot less impressive.)

Siri is a spinoff of CALO (Cognitive Assistant that Learns and Organizes). (“CALO attempted to integrate numerous AI technologies” “CALO was funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) under its Personalized Assistant that Learns (PAL) program.”)

Már többször gondolkodtam az információhoz jutás módjairól. Próbálom megtalálni a legjobb utakat, kompromisszumot, igazítani a tartalom fogyasztási szokásaimat, e-mail szűrÅ‘imet, twitter, youtube feliratkozásaimat…

Sajnos kevesebb időm van mint amennyi mindent szeretnék csinálni, tartalmat fogyasztani.

Részben azért veszek nyomtatott újságot informatikai területen (és nem csak elolvasom online), hogy az már átesett egy szűrésen, korlátozott a mérete.

Az egyik legjobb filter a baráti kör. Az így kapott információ már erősen szűrve van (a kommunikáció és idő korlátok miatt) és átesett egy quality kontrollon. Ezen kívül még személyre szabott is.

Ezért jók a szavazós rendszerű fórumok, mint pl. a stack overflow. A többség által értékesnek ítélt tartalom szűrésére egy jó módszer. Viszont ebből még mindig hiányzik a személyre szabottság. Ez persze egy nehezebb/időigényesebb feladat, de a Google már több területen használja.

A like-favoutite-subscribe adatokat sok mindenre fel lehetne használni (jóra és rosszra egyaránt).
Lehet például ez alapján keresni hasonló ízlésű embereket (potenciális barátok, vagy akár társkeresésre is).
Ha pedig már vannak ilyen fuzzy matchek, az alapján lehetne ajánlani, hogy a többiek mit kedveltek még. (Hasonlóan az Amazon suggest és társaihoz.)

Font rendering problem

I have so many problems with computers I can’t even list them.

I really feel Microsoft shouldn’t have developed Windows Vista, 7, 8 and rather fixed XP. We would have a really usable OS. With every new OS they introduce a shitload of new bugs (that they don’t have time to fix later).
And this is not even surprising. Windows codebase is huge, enormous and any software with that size will have lots of bugs.

But with the chase of new, we miss out on good enough.
Some of us don’t need the new stuff, we just need something that works and we can use. For some of us our OS is not a game, that we need excitement from. It is our work environment.
By the way this is not just about Windows, most of these can be told about Linux (Ubuntu Unity anyone?)
When you have to work in an office or factory that is falling apart around you it’s hard to do your best 🙁

Of course people expect windows to run on some pretty shitty hardware so it’s not easy (in contrast where Apple hand picks their hardware).
We cannot have an actually working reliable platform it seems.

Here is one of my problems: blurred, color shifts in font rendering.
